Angelica Peña

Dogwood Teacher

Angelica (she/her) was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, where her earliest lessons about the power of education came from her mother, the founder of an early childhood school. From a young age, Angelica witnessed the dedication, love, and profound impact that educators have on children’s lives. This experience planted the seed for her own path as an educator and continues to inspire her every day.

Angelica holds a bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in Social Studies and spent six years teaching in Colombia. Over time, her passion for Early Childhood Education deepened, becoming the heart of her work. In 2015, she moved to New York City to study English, and during that time embraced new teaching opportunities that broadened her perspective. As a private tutor, she learned to adapt creatively to different learning needs, while her work in a Brooklyn Spanish-immersion art program allowed her to merge culture, language, and creativity in her teaching practice.

In 2021, Angelica joined the wBees team in Greenpoint, where she found a home in the Montessori philosophy and environment. Here, she brings her Colombian roots, language, and love for children into every interaction, cultivating a space where curiosity, joy, and cultural connection flourish.

Outside the classroom, Angelica is a devoted mother to her sons, ages seven and 8-months. Together, they love exploring the outdoors and sharing adventures that fuel the same sense of wonder and discovery she brings into her teaching.
