Bushridge drop-off school
A nature-based Montessori preschool program serving the Ridgewood / Bushwick community.
wBees Forest School has roots in its infancy as a parent-run cooperative five years ago in Williamsburg / Greenpoint. Each year, we have grown and evolved from outdoor learning classes to a one-room schoolhouse in North Brooklyn. This year, we are thrilled to open our forever home in Ridgewood / Bushwick, lovingly known as "Bushridge" to the local environs. We have three beautiful Montessori classrooms serving children ages 2-5.5 years old.
Our Seedlings class is for our youngest students where they will be introduced to a Montessori work-cycle and learn to start to become part of a classroom community. Seedlings will learn to work and play together and will make some of their first friends! Seedlings will learn how to care for their classroom environment and build independence in the classroom.
Our Sprouts class builds upon and extends the many social and academic skills that we focus on in our Seedlings class. The Sprouts students will students who are the older 2's and younger 3's. The Sprouts will be a mix of students who are familiar with a Montessori environment and those that are new to the Montessori classroom. This mixed-age classroom allows for the complexity of language to develop through work and play cycles. Children continue to practice problem solving as they navigate and negotiate the classroom space and materials. We will also be focused on building literacy and numeracy through concrete Montessori materials and works that help build fine motor skills eventually leading to writing. There will be a stronger focus on science and cultural studies in our Sprouts classroom that reflect the interests of our students and the rhythms of our world and community.
Our Saplings classroom is our Primary Montessori classroom with our 3.5 - 5.5 year olds. The range of mixed ages allows for older children to lead the younger students as stewards of the classroom. The teachers get to really know their students as they move through a 3-year cycle with them from their 3's to 5's year. The materials, while still rooted in the concrete plane, begins to move to abstract learning planes.

Montessori Work Cycle
The Montessori work-cycle is a beautiful and harmonious time for children to learn to work independently on the different curricular areas of the classroom. Our teachers create a prepared-environment with works in practical life, sensorial / math, language, culturally relevant, art and peace areas with materials that engage and cultivate life skills for our students.
Our classroom follows the rhythm and cycles of nature and strive to bring as much of the out-of-doors inside. In the fall, we conduct investigative studies of pumpkins and apples. We incubate and hatch chicks from eggs as we learn about the difference between birds and mammals. Our care of small plants and animals help us become future stewards of our world.
Play and Exploration
We believe children learn through play and exploration of materials. We balance our Montessori work cycle with building materials such as blocks and Magnatiles. We have dramatic play areas to encourage interactive story-telling as the children's language abilities develop. We extend our love of stories through story-extensions which encourages play.
